THIS WEEK

WINES OF SPAIN

FRIDAY, October 30th
4:30 - 7:00pm

Remember, as this is the day before Halloween, costumes are encouraged

CHEESE PLATE
This week we offer Spanish cheese to go with the Spanish wines:
Cabra al Vino Goat’s
Milk Jumilla
I first came across this cheese at one of Evesham Wood’s Open Houses
years ago. It is a goat cheese aged in red wine. The “rind” is edible.
Idiazabal Sheep’s
Milk Basque Region
This cheese hails from the Basque country in Spain. During
production, the wheels are lightly smoked over beechwood, hawthorn,
or cherry for 10 days, imparting a slight smoky quality that adds
wonderfully to the rich, nutty flavor of this sheep's milk cheese.
Manchego Sheep’s
Milk La Mancha
From the land of Don Quixote, this is probably Spain’s most famous
cheese. It is aged in grass molds for at least two months, giving it
after notes of dry hay. A great match to many wines from dry sherry
to rich reds.
CHEESE SAMPLER PLATE $5.00

For this Spanish tasting we are offering wines that are all based on
TEMPRANILLO, the classic grape of RIOJA. In the basic flight are
wines from four different regions, and then the PREMIUM POUR is from
one of those regions.

1. We start in RIOJA with long time producer BODEGAS VALDEMAR. Their
2007 TEMPRANILLO is 100% of the grape and sees no wood. It offers
lots of fruit with spicy overtones – classic unoaked TEMPRANILLO -
$10.00

2. EMILIO MORO produces lovely, and pricey, wines in RIBERA del
DUERO. FINCA RESALSO is the “entry-level” wine, named after the
original vineyard planted in 1932. However it is made from vines
between 5 and 15 years of age. It is 100% TINTO FINO (aka
TEMPRANILLO) from vines propagated from the original plantings. This
is a very good DUERO wine at modest cost - $14.50

3. ALEJANDRO FERNÁNDEZ is the “father” of RIBEIRA del DUERO through
his PESQUERA wines. He now is producing wines in other Spanish
regions. We offer the DEHESÃ LA GRÃNJÃ 2003 from CASTILLA y LEÓN.
Again, this is 100% TEMPRANILLO and this time it has been aged in new
American Oak for two years - $17.75

4. We stay with ALEJANDRO FERNÁNDEZ and now a wine from LA MANCHA.
His 2004 EL VÍNCULO is from a property he purchased in 1998. Once
again, 100% TEMPRANILLO, the wine is from a mix of old vines
ALEJANDRO brought back to life and some later plantings - $31.00

TRY THESE FOUR WINES FOR $10.00

For this week’s PREMIUM POUR we stay with ALEJANDRO FERNÁNDEZ:

When ALEJANDRO FERNÁNDEZ developed PESQUERA, it resulted in the
elevation of RIBERA del DUERO into the upper ranks of Spanish wine
regions. The area received its Denominación de Origin in 1982,
mainly as a result of FERNÁNDEZ’s work. We offer his PESQUERA 2005
RESERVA which is 100% TEMPRANILLO and aged for about 24 months in a
mix of American, French and Spanish oak barricas. This is the
ultimate expression of RIBERA del DUERO TEMPRANILLO - $60.00

TRY THIS WINE FOR $6.50/Taste or $12.00/4 Ounces

SATURDAY, October 31st
Noon – 5:00PM
Free Tasting

As usual we will have some interesting wines open. One will be:

VIOTTOLO 2007 CHIANTI – we are always looking for the $10 pizza wine,
especially for Pizzicato’s customers, but it is getting more
difficult. This is 100% SANGIOVESE that shows good berry fruit with
that little dustiness that says it is from TOSCANA. Wonderful value
- $9.50
