MASSENA WINE FUTURES

The 2006 vintage of MASSENA red wines are scheduled to arrive in late  
June.  I have an opportunity to order some wines on a futures basis.   
I need to know your requirements by FRIDAY, MAY 2nd.  However no  
payment is required until the wine arrives.

MASSENA is a producer in AUSTRALIA’s BAROSSA VALLEY.  The winery is  
owned by DAN STANDISH and JAYSEN COLLINS with DAN being the  
winemaker.  Like most Aussie producers, their wines have weight and  
fruit intensity.  What I like is the balance Dan achieves, and, dare  
I say it about an Aussie wine, a touch of elegance!  In my five years  
at Cornell Wine, Robert Parker has always rated these wines as  
“Outstanding”, and for this vintage so has Dr. Jay Miller who  
currently writes about Australia in The Wine Advocate.  As usual,  
I’ll be buying some for my own cellar – unless you buy all my  
allocation!

MASSENA 2006 SHIRAZ “THE 11th HOUR”

Futures Price: $39.75                  Normal Price: $48.75

100% Shiraz from 60–125 year old vines with yields varying from 0.7  
to 2.2 tons/acre.  Aged for 20 months in used French (Troncais) oak  
hogsheads.

“Crimson-colored, it offers an alluring aroma of vanilla, coconut,  
smoked meat, and wild blueberry.  Medium to full-bodied, this ripe,  
tasty Shiraz is remarkably light on its feet.  There is enough soft  
tannins to safely cellar this wine for 2-3 years and drink through  
2020” – The Wine Advocate

MASSENA 2006 “MOONLIGHT RUN”

Futures Price: $28.75                  Normal Price: $33.75

Usually my favorite wine from this producer, this vintage is a blend  
of 53% Grenache, 29% Shiraz, 10% Mourvèdre and 8% Cinsault from vines  
ranging from 85-150 years old.  All yields were less than 1 ton/ 
acre.  The wine was aged for 18 months in French oak.

“Dark ruby-colored, the wine offers a fragrant perfume of mocha,  
coffee, black cherry, and black raspberry which leaps from the  
glass.  Velvety on the palate, it has gobs of flavor, terrific  
concentration, and superior length in its hedonistic personality” –
