[Cornell Wine] Old (but not tired) Muscadet

OLD (BUT NOT TIRED) MUSCADET

The local distributor of PIERRE LUNEAU-PAPIN Muscadets has just  
imported three older vintages direct from the winery’s cellars.  We  
have a few bottles of each vintage, and more should be available of  
all but the 1989.  All bottlings are the CUVÉE le L d’OR which  
represent the best terroir from the estate.  The following notes are  
from the local distributor as I have not tasted these wines.

Vintage 1997                    $24.00
This wine is still young and undeveloped, but bright and very fresh  
and focused.  The finish is more developed with a Riesling-like  
character of laser acidity and light dieselly notes.

Vintage 1995                    $27.00
More developed than the 1997 with stone fruits, flint and diesel on  
the nose, firmer and finer on the palate, deeply flavored and very long.

Vintage 1989                    $33.00
Nearly perfect; structured and firm with a multitude of fruits and  
minerals vying for attention; both broad and deep on the palate; very  
long on the finish with fine, perfectly attuned acidity.

These older Muscadets in some ways show their heritage to Burgundy –  
the grape is called Melon de Bourgogne – and Jacqueline Friedrich in  
her book on the Loire said “The best can hold its own against many a  
Pouilly Fuissé or the Loire’s Pouilly Fumé”.  She also said 1989 was  
a great year for Muscadet.

If you are interested in any of this wine, please let me know ASAP.   
Orders will be fulfilled in the order received.  Unless you pre-pay,  
we would like you to collect the wine within one week of being  
notified that your allocation is available.  Otherwise we will give  
your allocation to anyone on our “wait-list”.
