July 14 - French Wines for Bastille Day

July 21 – Zinfandel

July 28 German & Austrian Wines

with Ewald Moseler

FRIDAY, July 7th, 4:30 - 7:00pm
Cabernet Sauvignon
1. We start in CALIFORNIA’S NAPA VALLEY with AQUINAS 2003 CABERNET
SAUVIGNON. AQUINAS is one of Don Sebastiani’s many labels, and all
of the wines are solid values. However, this vintage of the Cabernet
has a step-up in quality, and I think it is one of the best $10
Cabernets on the market. The nose offers cassis and subtle oak
leading to a rich, spicy palate of some depth. The tannins are
moderate giving a long supple finish - $10.00

2. We stay in the NAPA VALLEY for MICHAEL POZZAN’S NAPA CUVÉE No 9
2003 CABERNET SAUVIGNON. We have carried the previous three vintages
(Cuvées 6, 7 & 8) of this wine which is like a “big brother” to the
ANNABELLA CABERNET SAUVIGNON. To me the Cuvées are more elegant and
complex than Annabella – maybe they should have a female name - $15.00

3. Moving to the north we visit WASHINGTON’S COLUMBIA VALLEY to taste
ARBOR CREST 2003 CABERNET SAUVIGNON. While at this stage the oak is
a touch too noticeable for my palate, I was struck by the purity of
the cassis fruit. When I was a kid in Yorkshire there was a “health”
drink called Ribena that was made from blackcurrants – this wine is
like drinking alcoholic Ribena! - $18.50

4. We go back to the NAPA VALLEY for our final wine. The HESSE
SELECT wines are great value, but the HESSE ESTATE are a big step-up
in quality. This is another wine that has great purity of fruit
balanced by 18 months in French Oak - $20.00

TRY THESE FOUR WINES FOR $10.00

For our PREMIUM POUR we stay in CALIFORNIA:

We move to SONOMA COUNTY’S ALEXANDER VALLEY for a wine from the great
2001 vintage. The SCHERRER 2001 CABERNET SAUVIGNON is a wonderful
wine showing great fruit, balance and length. The wine has 8% MERLOT
in the blend, and to me it shows the subtleties of Alexander Valley –
great fruit, subtle oak, and a certain balance not found in some Napa
Valley wines - $35.00

TRY THIS WINE FOR $4.00/Taste or $7.00/4 ounces

SATURDAY, July 8th

Noon – 5:00PM

WE WILL HAVE THE FOUR JULY CORNELL WINE CLUB WINES OPEN FOR
TASTING. SEE OTHER EMAIL FOR DETAILS OF THE WINES.

Looking forward to seeing you all,

Cheers,

Mick
